Online Edge voices default on
ActionClip 2.3.0 enables Edge voices for new installs and once for upgrading users. After that migration, turning Edge voices off stays off. If no voice is saved, Say chooses a matching voice automatically. Translation and OCR playback continue using local voices.
What is sent online
When you invoke Say with Edge enabled and Allow online actions allowed, the text to be spoken goes directly to Microsoft to generate audio. The default does not start reading or uploading text in the background, and it does not override the global online-actions switch.
Keep speech on your Mac
Open Say's Speech voices settings and turn off online Edge voices, or disable Allow online actions globally. Choose an installed macOS voice for local speech. Use Download Voices to open macOS speech settings for supported Enhanced or Premium voices.
Playback and fallback
Say supports streaming playback and pause/resume. If online speech fails, ActionClip falls back to local speech. Apple may not expose every Siri voice to apps even when it is installed. See the local speech and translation guide for voice downloads.
