Choose the right result behavior

Open an action's gear and inspect its Result choices. Supported built-ins and custom action types offer different combinations of review, display, replacement, copying, and external handoff. Review, copy, or replace allows a replacement step; Display result in popup is display-only. Replace selected text applies to editable selections; a non-editable selection falls back to a popup. Failed actions never replace your text.

Correct text and resize the window

Supported text results are editable before copying, replacing, saving to a note, or listening. Enable or disable editing in Settings → Result Popup. Drag a popup edge or corner to resize it. The size is retained during completion, retry, and recall; new results start at their natural size. Not every rich or image result is an editable text field.

Use the current result

Enable optional Add to note controls to append the result to your configured destination. Choose the destination app in Settings → Notes. Copying, note export, replacement, and supported speech use your edited text. Result Popup settings also control editing, the Translate and Add to note controls, font size, and closing behavior. Shimmer is enabled automatically and respects macOS Reduce Motion.

Look up a word without opening another app

Set Dictionary → Result to the in-app popup. It uses the dictionaries enabled on your Mac, presents structured meanings and examples, and offers a speaker beside the word plus full-entry playback below. Existing users keep their Dictionary-app setting until they change it.

Create structured result cards

Custom JavaScript actions can use the Rich Result Card preset for headings, lists, quotes, code, links, badges, and optional speech. ActionClip renders supported structured content natively; arbitrary HTML, CSS, and injected browser scripts are not executed.

Expand the result and its text area

Use the expand button in the popup header for more room. The text area expands with the window. Drag the header to move the popup. Add to note uses the destination selected in Settings → Notes. Loading feedback appears immediately, and longer replacements can be cancelled.

Sequence Paste uses separate cards and grows with the queue, up to 60% of the usable screen height.

Translate the result

In ActionClip 2.3.2 or later, enable Translate under Settings → Result Popup to show the Translate button. Click it to translate the current result, including your edits, using your existing Translate provider and target language.

Right-click Translate for more target languages. Choosing a language there applies to that translation without changing your saved default. Hover over the button to see its default target language.

Use the popup controls

The footer groups Copy and Replace, then Translate and Add to note. Retry sits at the bottom right. Hover over an icon for its label. Available controls appear while the action is loading and stay disabled until they can be used. Replace also requires a replaceable selection.

The source badge beside the title identifies the configured provider or local device; hover for its name. Add to note and Translate visibility follows your Result Popup settings on supported result types.
