What Cut does

ActionClip asks the source app to perform its normal Cut command. If the selection is read-only, ActionClip keeps the source unchanged and shows the selected text in a result instead.

How to use it

  1. Select the text you want to use in any supported Mac app.
  2. Choose Cut from the ActionClip widget or its More menu.
  3. Review the result, or continue in the destination app when the action opens one.

Settings

Open the action's settings from:

ActionClip Settings → Actions → Cut → gear
ActionClip Display settings with Icon with Label, Icon only, and Label only options
Cut uses these three Display styles in the floating widget.

Display

Choose how this action appears in the floating widget. This changes only its presentation, not what it does.

  • Icon with Label
  • Icon only
  • Label only

Changes are saved automatically.

You can also replace this action's icon from ActionClip → Actions. See change an action icon.

When ActionClip suggests it

Cut remains available when enabled. ActionClip uses editability to decide whether to cut in place or show a safe read-only fallback.

Enabled actions remain available in your Actions list even when Smart Suggestions do not promote them for the current selection.

Requirements and privacy

  • Works locally and does not require Online Actions.
  • The source app must expose an editable selection for an in-place cut.
  • Validated Google Docs selections can use the browser's enabled Cut command.
Copy Copy sends the current selection to the Mac clipboard without changing the source text. Paste Paste inserts the current clipboard content at an editable insertion point. Clear Formatting Clear Formatting removes character styling such as font, weight, color, and emphasis while preserving the selected text.
