How actions are arranged

When you select text, ActionClip builds the widget in the following order:

1A relevant Auto Suggestion

When the selected text matches an enabled Auto Suggestion, ActionClip places one helpful suggestion at the beginning of the widget.

For example:

  • Select a misspelled word to see a spelling correction.
  • Select $100 to see a currency conversion.
  • Select 10 km to see a unit conversion.
  • Select 10:30 AM PDT to see a time-zone conversion.

Only one Auto Suggestion appears at a time. If nothing relevant is detected, your regular actions begin from the first position instead.

2Your ordered actions

ActionClip uses up to six leading positions for the Auto Suggestion and your regular actions.

  • If an Auto Suggestion appears, it uses the first position and your ordered actions follow it.
  • If there is no Auto Suggestion, your ordered actions can use all six positions.

The order comes directly from the Actions list in the app. Actions near the top of the list are shown before actions lower down.

Disabled actions are skipped, but their saved position is remembered. If you enable one again later, it returns to its previous place in the order.

3Your action Group

If you have created a Group, it appears after the leading actions whenever at least one action inside it is enabled.

Click the Group to open its dropdown and choose an action. This is useful for keeping related actions together—for example, writing tools such as Fix Grammar, Summarize, and Write Formally.

Actions inside the Group are not repeated elsewhere in the widget or under More. If only one Group action is enabled, the Group remains visible with that one action inside it.

4Word and Character Count

You can optionally show the number of selected words, characters, or both.

The count appears after the Group. It updates automatically for each new selection and does not take the place of one of your regular ordered actions.

5More

More contains the enabled actions that could not fit in the main widget.

It does not repeat:

  • Actions already visible in the widget
  • The action represented by the current Auto Suggestion
  • Your Group or its actions
  • Word and Character Count

Actions under More still follow your saved order. If every enabled action is already available in the main widget or Group, the More button is hidden because there is nothing additional to show.

How to customize the widget

Open ActionClip → Actions to make the widget work the way you prefer.

Show or hide actions

Use the checkbox beside an action to enable or disable it.

Enabled actions can appear in the widget, Group, or More. Disabled actions remain in your Actions list but are hidden from the widget.

Change the action order

Drag actions up or down in the Actions list.

Actions closer to the top receive higher priority and are more likely to appear directly in the widget. Actions further down remain available under More when there is not enough space.

Choose how an action looks

You can choose a display style for each action:

  • Icon and name
  • Icon only
  • Name only

Using shorter display styles can make the widget more compact, especially when your action names are long.

Configure Auto Suggestions

In the Auto Suggestions section, you can enable or disable:

  • Spelling Suggestions
  • Unit Conversion
  • Currency Conversion
  • Time Zone Conversion
  • Word Count
  • Character Count

Some suggestions also have additional settings, such as the target currency, target time zone, or spelling language.

Create or edit a Group

Use a Group to collect related actions under one dropdown.

When editing a Group, you can choose its name, icon, and member actions. The actions inside it follow the same order as your main Actions list, so you only need to manage the order in one place.

Check the Widget Preview

The Widget Preview at the top of the Actions page shows how your current setup will appear.

Choose different sample-text options to preview:

  • No matching suggestion
  • Spelling
  • Currency
  • Units
  • Time

You can also open Group and More in the preview to inspect their contents. Preview actions never run, so you can safely experiment until the widget feels right for you.
