What Say does

Choose Say for the current selection. Existing Say preferences and customizations are preserved when upgrading.

Use local voices or optional Microsoft Edge online voices, with pause and resume. Online voices depend on internet access and Online Actions being enabled.

How to use it

  1. Select the text you want to hear.
  2. Choose Say from the widget or Language group.
  3. Use the playback controls to pause or resume.

Settings

Open the action's settings from:

ActionClip → Actions → Say → gear

Voice

Choose a local voice or enable online Microsoft Edge speech.

  • Online Edge voices
  • Pause
  • Resume

Changes are saved automatically.

You can also replace this action's icon from ActionClip → Actions. See change an action icon.

When ActionClip suggests it

Available for non-empty selected text when enabled.

Enabled actions remain available in your Actions list even when Smart Suggestions do not promote them for the current selection.

Requirements and privacy

  • Built-in Say requires ActionClip 2.3.1 or later. Earlier releases can install Say from the Marketplace.
  • Local speech stays on your Mac. Online Edge speech sends the spoken text directly to Microsoft and can be disabled.
  • A local voice provides fallback when online speech is unavailable.
Dictionary Dictionary can show a structured local definition inside ActionClip or open the matching entry in Apple's Dictionary app. Translate Translate converts selected text into the target language configured for the action. Copy Copy sends the current selection to the Mac clipboard without changing the source text.
