What Screenshot OCR does
Capture a region without first selecting text. ActionClip preserves paragraphs, lists, and table-like columns, then shows the recognized text or copies it directly according to your settings.
How to use it
- Start Screenshot OCR with its keyboard shortcut, the ActionClip status menu, the widget action, or the configured hold-and-drag gesture.
- Drag over the screen region containing the text.
- Review and copy the recognized text, or use direct-to-clipboard mode.

Settings
Open the action's settings from:
ActionClip → Actions → Screenshot OCR → gearResult
Choose whether recognized text opens in a result popup or is copied directly.
Capture controls
Choose the hold-and-drag modifier and an optional global keyboard shortcut.
Playback
Optionally show Play, Pause, and Resume for recognized text.
Changes are saved automatically.
You can also replace this action's icon from ActionClip → Actions. See change an action icon.
When ActionClip suggests it
Available whenever enabled and does not require an existing text selection.
Enabled actions remain available in your Actions list even when Smart Suggestions do not promote them for the current selection.
Requirements and privacy
- Requires ActionClip 2.2.2 or later.
- macOS may request Screen Recording permission before the first capture.
- Recognition runs locally with Apple Vision and does not require Online Actions.
